Install Claude Code

Choose your computer, then follow the steps in order.

What you need

A paid Claude plan: Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise, or a Claude Console account. The free plan doesn’t include Claude Code. You can see the plans at claude.com/pricing.

  1. Open Terminal

Press Command + Space, type Terminal, and press Return.

  2. Run the installer

Copy this line, paste it into Terminal with Command + V, and press Return.

    curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash

Wait for it to finish before you go on.

  3. Check that it worked

Close Terminal and open it again. Then type this and press Enter:

    claude --version

You should see a version number, such as 2.1.211 (Claude Code).

  4. Start it and sign in

    Type this and press Enter:

    claude

Your browser opens to the Claude sign-in page. Sign in there, then come back to the terminal.

If it says “claude” isn’t found

Close every terminal window and open a new one first. If that doesn’t fix it, scroll back through what the installer printed and look for Setup notes. It gives you the exact line to run.
